Light rail line 15, Johannisplatz, Leipzig, Germany

In the course of preparations for the 2006 Football World Cup tram line number 15 was converted into a light rail line. Johannisplatz is a 5-armed junction with high traffic volumes from tram and car traffic. The traffic concept was fundamentally altered in the process.

Description of project:

  • Conversion of all track systems
  • Conversion of traction power supply and overhead contact systems
  • Conversion and construction of all road and pavement areas
  • Construction and redirecting of all Underground cables
  • Conversion and construction of all stops (disabled access, passenger friendly)

In the course of preparations for the 2006 Football World Cup tram line number 15 was converted into a light rail line. Prager Straße lies in a section with a heritage listed park area, consequently, high requirements were placed on the design of the track systems. Moreover, parts of the track Systems in the bridge area cross the rail track systems of DB AG.

Edinburgh in Scotland is investing in a new tram system. Trams will connect the city centre with the airport and North Edinburgh (Newhaven).

  • New construction of a tram depot including workshop and maintenance facilities
  • About 50 km utility diversions
  • New construction and reconstruction of various civil engineering structures
